Suggest treatment for itching and rashes throughout body

I have recently developed generalised itching and rash some times raised, spread many areas on the body. More itching on the limbs and back. Itching on face in the mornings and more itching in the lower body in the evenings and night (more on scrotal skin).
Little control with Allegra.
Age 57 yrs, male, average complex, no diabetes, no alcohol, no smoking.
Will you please advise?

Hi.

This seems to be a generalized allergic reaction. As it improves with Allegra that is an anti allergic, it further confirms towards Allergic reaction. When the body becomes allergic to something and when such thing enters the body or comes in contact with skin then body releases some chemicals as a reaction to the allergen but in turn also produces symptoms of allergy like rashes, itching, hives etc.

Allergic reaction can occur due to causes like certain foods, of which common ones are sea foods, nuts, eggs, milk and milk products etc. Certain medicines can also be a cause. Pollen, animal dander, insect bites, some grasses and trees can also be a cause. There can also be allergy to latex, leather, poison ivy, poison oak, certain cosmetics, soap, detergent etc.

You should consult an immunologist and get checked. Blood tests can be done to rule out allergies, while at times skin biopsy can be done for confirmation. Anti allergy medications like Levocetirizine, Benadryl, Fexofenadine etc can be advised. While if there is severe allergy injections can be given of steroid or Epinephrine. You can also do cool compresses over rashes, apply anti-itch ointment or lotion to relieve irritation. Avoid hot water bath. Wear loose and easily breathable clothes. Maintain good hygiene.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
