What Causes Radiating Pain In The Right Leg?

default
Posted on Fri, 24 Jun 2016
Question: During the day my knee does not bother me, but at night when I sleep and lie on my side the pressure of one knee against the other causes pain up and down my leg enough so I can not sleep. This is my right knee. Lying on my right side cause the worst pain both down my leg as well as up. I can lie on my left side for longer but will eventually have an aching pain there as well. What do you think this is?

Brief Answer:
Suggested further tests to rule out osteoarthritis of the knee or gout....

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concern.

Let me recapitalize your case:

- pain on the right knee during night when putting pressure of the other knee
- unbearable pain that does not let you sleep
- taking advil for the pain
- backing off of the elliptical machine

From what you saying, it seems that the knee pain you are having is due to osteoarthritis. I advise to consult with an ortopedist or rheumatologist and to run further tests:
- X-ray of the knee
- complete blood count
- blood uric acid to exclude gout
- CRP/ERS level

Until you have the tests done, you should continue taking advil to ease the pain. Massaging with olive oil and applying antalgesic cream locally can help. Avoid activities that would require putting pressure on your knee.

Can put a soft pillow between your legs to avoid pressure on the left knee to the right one.

Wish fast recovery!
