What Causes Radiating Pain In Left Side Of The Neck And Lower Jaw?

default
Posted on Thu, 22 Sep 2016
Question: I have a dull pain in the front left hand side of my neck. It can radiate into my lower jaw. I originally thought it was because of how I was sleeping on it. It goes away but comes back. It doesn't feel swollen, I am not having trouble swallowing and my voice is normal. It has been going on for around 5 months. Not severe! I have recently started to feel it in the same spot inside my throat. This is more of a sharp pain. It happens mostly when I move or burp. I have been rubbing it and pressing on the area checking for lumps. I have not noticed any lumps. I am concerned because I recently stopped chewing tobacco.

Brief Answer:
Muscle spasm, analgesic, other possibility is GERD

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome

I have gone through your question and understand your concern.
This seems like muscular pain probably due to stretching or spasm.

Is there any history of trauma, lifting heavy objects like bag, suitcase, bucket?

You can take pain killers with muscle relaxant like Aceclofenac or Naproxen or etoricoxib with tizanidine or thiocholchicoside for 3-5 days based on the response. You can ask your local doctor for prescription of this agent.
Along with this cold compression with ice packs and analgesic gel or spray to the affected area will be beneficial. Also give rest and avoid any activities that aggravates the pain. This will help you.
If it persists or intensity increases, I would suggest you to see orthopaedician for examination and further help

Other possibility is GERD, for this avoid spicy food, alcohol and smoking if you do. Capsule omeprazole 20 mg once daily before breakfast for a week.

Hope this information helps ,
Take care.
