What Causes Persistent Redness In The Eyes And Sneezing?

default
Posted on Tue, 5 Jul 2016
Question: okay....I just joined....so here is my question. 9 days ago I sneezed and the whites of my left eye turned red...guessing I popped a blood vessel. It's been 9 days and the red in the eye has not gone away. I went swimming 4 days ago and I'm guessing the chlorine in the water made it even redder. My eye does not hurt and I can see fine out of it. Want to know how do we get the red out of the eye so it will look normal again.

Brief Answer:
Subconjunctival Hemorrhage

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome
I have gone through your query and do understand your concern.
Based on the information i feel It is a Subconjunctival Hemorrhage.

It is caused when one of the tiny blood vessels on the white of your eye ruptures and that tiny drop of blood gets trapped between the white of your eye.

Sometimes this blood vessel breakage can be caused by a strong cough, vomiting, lifting something heavy, constipation strain, a stong sneeze etc. In your case it has resulted due to sneezing.

It may take anywhere between 7 to 15 days to clear up. Usually, no treatment is needed. Over-the-counter artificial tears can be applied to the eye if mild irritation is present. Though can see opthalmologist for examination and confirmation.

Hope this helps
Take care
