What Causes Pelvic Discomfort And Vaginal Discharge Post Unprotected Sex?
Question: Hi. I had sex using a condom on Sep. 27. I also was given oral sex. Shortly after that same day I started to experience pelvic discomfort. A few days later I noticed a discharge. I went to gynecologist on Oct. 13 and got full blood work done for STD screening. I was also given treatment for a yeast infection which did not relieve symptoms. I got my blood results back 2 days later and they were normal/negative except for HSV1 which I was already aware of. Today my discharge is thicker and I don't know what is causing it. Should I be retested for STDs or should I get a second opinion? Also, I am a 36year old female... Thanks

I got confused a little as your gender mentioned as male in the patient profile.
You had a protected sex. I hope the condom used from the beginning to end and was intact. Then the possibility of STD and HIV is negligible. Receiving oral sex could be a cause for yeast infection. If the discharge is more towards curdy white in nature, then it could once again due to Yeast infection. If the discharge is greenish white or yellowish and pus like or in any other consistency, it is wiser to examine the discharge under microscope (wet and dry stained smear) and try to identify the exact cause of the discharge and get treated for the same. Blood results are reliable 4 weeks after the exposure and not earlier than that. As you had a pelvic discomfort an ultrasonographic study of abdomen is recommended to rule out any other pathology, not related to the present exposure. HSV 1 infection is nonvenereal in origin and even it could be positive in a child and ignore the same.

Ok... My discharge was white but today it seems more grey in color. My gynocologist prescribed me Valtrex and said that I should take that to see if it clears me up since I have HSV1. She didn't see any herpes legions, but said that everything else was ruled out according to the blood test so we should just try it... I'm really confused

When there is no obvious lesions (that too for HSV1 infection), Valtrex would be of not much use. Have they examined your vagina with the help of speculum and took your discharge for examination? Even if had been done, there is nothing wrong to repeat the same as sometimes the cause might be revealed on repeat examination. Nothing to worry you will be alright.
