What Causes Painful Pulsating Sensations In Left Leg?

default
Posted on Thu, 12 May 2016
Question: I was sitting at work today and I moved my foot and got a painful pulse sensation in my left leg a little higher than my ankle on the left side of my ankle a little towards to back, basically posterior tibial. It lasted for about 4 or 5 beats then stopped. It was a sharp pulse sensation. I didn't think anything of it, but then I went home it happened again while I was standing at the fridge. This time it lasted for like 2 beats. Now it happens every minute or two and it is one beat at a time. It will be a sharp pulse like pain and then nothing for a minute and then it will happen again. Then it will happen every other second for awhile. Is this a muscle twitch? Should I be worried about aneurysm, or blood clot. There is no swelling or tenderness, just a sharp pulse pain. What is this?

Brief Answer:
Muscle twitch. Observe only for now!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this pulsate sensations that you have reported. This is likely a muscle twitch. Most happen on transient bases and do not represent any disease condition. Resolution is often spontaneous. This is really no aneurysm or blood clot and in no way is this even a possibility. I will suggest that you do some light exercises with this area like trying to move the joint in different directions. Also, drink much water as dehydration could be a provoking and aggravating factor. Most importantly, be relaxed about this. There is no red flag and your health is in no way at risk.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. Above all, thanks for using our services.
