What Causes Painful Open Wounds Around The Anus?
Question: Hello. About four days ago I developed serious skin pain and open wounds around my anus. I have attached two photos for you to see the condition. There is a lot of pain from the area surrounding the anus and I have difficulty walking. There is limited to no pain when passing stools. Please provide a diagnosis and suggested management of the condition. I tried using zinc oxide cream but it did not seem to help. Thank you.

Sure. No diarrhea, no blood and no mucus in stool. No known allergies. No abnormal pain elsewhere. I can't say what caused it.

It could appear due to anal sex.

How about anal sex? This wounds do look like caused by some kind of injury/contact. Anal sex can be such factor. As you do not have any other symptoms, the issue seems to affect skin only. That is good. You have both wounds (due to injury most likely) and hair follicles inflammation.
I suggest you to avoid any contact in this area for at least a week. Please wash it regularly with soap and water and especially after you pass stool (stool is infected and can worsen the wounds). Wear loose underwear. At this point NO antibiotics or any other oral medicines are necessary.
Zinc oxide cream is also not a good idea as it will make it dry.
You may try some OTC cream used for hemorrhoids treatment. This kind of agent should deal with your wounds as well.

Thank you for your reply. I'm just concerned it might be herpes. Do I understand correctly that in your opinion the photos do not show anal herpes?
