What Causes Painful Knot In Lower Right Quandrant?

Question: My mother who is 88 years old has a very small knot located in the lower right quandrant dull pain and has had unltrasounds and cysts of her kidneys and pelvic and abdomen the results showed a very small cyst in both kidneys she says it radiates around to her right lower back all they tell her is she has a cyst on her right kidney we r very frustrated due to not really knowing the real cause of pain in the past she has had bilateral hip replacements cholesystectomy and has some trouble with constipation. What could be causing the pain?

The knot that is palpable is usually superficial

A clinical examination or a soft tissue ultrasound will help

The renal cyst as you mentioned are very small, anyway they are usually benign and can not cause radiating pain

It could be muscular pain, uretric calculus [but this could well be detected on abdominal ultasound ]

I would suggest you try a tablet of diclofenac 50 mg twice a day and see the results, in the mean time go for a complete blood panel with renal panel and a soft tissue ultrasound
