What Causes Pain In The Left Side Of The Abdomen?

default
Posted on Mon, 17 Oct 2016
Question: I have acute pain on the left side of abdomen often with a gap of about 15 days. I had Ultrsound done at two labs as advised by the doctor. One lab reported that THERE IS A DIFFUSE THICKENING OF TERMINAL ILEUM. The other lab reported MILD BOWEL WALL THICKENING NOTED IN LEFT ILIAC REGION. Since then, I controlled my food habits, and had no pain in the last 45 days. I am yet to visit my family doctor. I am not in a position to undergo surgery. Kindly let me know if this curable by medication.

Brief Answer:
This does not seem normal. Please get investigations done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to Health Care Magic and Thank you for your question.
This pain is definitely not normal, specially along with the loose motions. Prolonged diarrhea is not a good thing. Have you lost any weight over the past one or two months?
Please see a Gastroenterologist to know what is happening?
They might advice an Upper GI Endsoscopy or a Colonoscopy. But both these investigations might miss the problem as it seems to be in the lower small intestine and in that case you might need a Barium meal follow through(BMFT) which is a special XRay study or a CECT Abdomen.
But I suggest you get investigated to know what is wrong.
You could start Isabgol husk 1 packet at night with a little milk till then. For the pain you can take Tab Paracetamol 650mg whenever there is severe pain.
Take care and do let me know if there are any queries on this issue.
