What Causes Pain In Testicles And Tip Of Penis?

default
Posted on Tue, 26 May 2015
Question: Hello

I have been feeling some pain in my testicles and a little on the tip of my penis. My doctor said I have prostatitis but he didn't really examine me. He put me on a 1 month course of sulfatrim. It's been 12 days on sulfatrim so far and my symptoms are still the same. When should I go back for a follow up? Should I wait until the completion of the antibiotics which is in another 17 days?

Brief Answer:
This does not seem to be prostatitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Its really not a good idea to treat prostatitis without diagnosis. And in many cases, simple rectal examination can give an answer about prostatis. I assume this test has not been done.

Your symptoms are not characteristic for prostatitis. Especially the pain in the penis tip. You would rather get burning or strong pain in the rectum along with lower abdominal pain and possible testis pain with prostatitis.

I would rather said that you may have urinary tract infection, epidydimitis or testis infection. This conditions can be treated with antibiotics as well. Sulfatrim can help with all mentioned conditions. But before giving it, you should have at least urine analysis, urine culture and testis ultrasound.
Unfortunately you can not have this test now as you are on antibiotic. This would give false negative urine analysis and culture.

The best you can do right now is to consult urologist. Rectal examination will tell if its really prostatitis and if such long antibiotic treatment is necessary.
Please also start cranberries supplementation and increase mineral water intake.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

Thank you for the reply.

Is it better to drink cranberry juice or take suppliers? How will this help? Thanks.
