What Causes Pain In Right Tricep, Armpit And Upper Shoulder While On Sulfa?

default
Posted on Tue, 5 Apr 2016
Question: Overnight I developed pain in my right tricep, armpit, and upper shoulder. Hurts when I raise my arm or put pressure on the area. Also, tricep "fires" intermittently. I'm a 69 year old male, currently taking sulfa melds for a urinary infection.

Brief Answer:
Myalgia for evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I do not think sulfa medicines could have caused this. Have you ever had this before while using sulfa medicines. At least this set of symptoms were not mentioned in the list of side effects.
You had developed myalgia (inflammation of the muscle) coupled with rotatory cuff injury. This is common in elderly and the reasons are unknown.
You can use simple over the counter pain killers like Ibuprofen, ice, rest the shoulder, do not lift the arm, avoid all positions that pain.

Let me know if you have any other thoughts.
