default
Posted on Fri, 18 Jul 2014
Question: I have been having pain just outside of the right side of the lower spine... Pain is in concentrated in one area...I did lift something heavy about two weeks ago and originally started further up my back and now the pain has moved further down. Ive been taking advil and Tylenol to get some relief with flexiril.. I have had back problems before so could this be just a flare up.

Brief Answer:
Lower back muscle spasm seems to be the cause

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for posting
I have gone through your suffering carefully, based on that the most likely cause seems to be muscle spasm. To confirm that please tell me-
1. Do you have an inability to rotate or bend your spine forward/backward?
2. Do you have pain going from lower back to leg, along with numbness and tingling sensation?

As far as treatment is concerned you may take hot water fomentation/shower and take muscle relaxant like thiocolchicoside in place of flexiril for few days. As this is prescription only drug you may have to contact your local doctor. Physiotherapy in form of short wave diathermy and TENS helps in early recovery.
The other cause could be ureteric stone, so if the pain does not respond to above mentioned treatment ultrasonography is recommended.
Hope this helps and I shall be glad to answer any further query.
Take care.

Thank you, A hot shower does help... sitting and movement with my right leg does cause it to hurt more... I can bend but it is uncomfortable. Just very difficult to find a comfortable position.. Sometimes advils help. My urine is clear and no burning.
