Posted on Tue, 10 Jun 2014
Question: I had a bad pain on the lower right side of my stomach last night, then threw up violently for 20 minutes.
I looked in the mirror an hour later and my face was totally blotched. I woke up in the middle of the night with a severe pain in lower back on the right. Still in pain this morning and face still blotched.

Brief Answer:
Possibly Ureteric colic

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Pain in right side of abdomen associated with vomiting and later pain appearing in right lower back I would like to rule out possibility of Ureteric colic and possibly associated gastritis.
I would require additional information
1. Is the pain intermittent and colicky in nature?
2. Do you have Urinary complaint like burning while passing urine?
3. Any previous such complaints?

Colicky type of pain will respond to antispasmodic like Drotavarine.

Do get back to me with details.

Take care

No other pain, just the lower right side/back- and yes, if by colicky you mean it comes and goes, then yes, the pain is worse, then subsides for a while.
I am really concerned about my face- I have red blotches all around my eyes and cheeks. Would that occur because of the violent throwing up? It wasn't there before I threw up. And... sounds funny, but my eye balls really hurt afterwards and still do a bit. My face looks bad. Will that go away today? Anything I can put on my face to make it go away? Cortisone?
Forgot to say that I am Type 2 diabetic, and taking Metformin.
I know if it accumulates, it can cause lactic acidosis.
I've had no symtoms until last night

Brief Answer:
Cortisone not to be applied over face

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Greetings
Thanks for the information.
Steroids like Cortisone are better avoided over the face and is definitely not indicated in your case. The facial symptoms are due to facial flushing which is seen in colick pain.
I would suggest you the following
1. Antispasmodic: Drotavarine will red 5th paid
2. Antacids and antiemetic : Pantoprozole and Domperidone taken together will relieve the vomiting

If the pain still persist then you will require evaluation by Ultrasound of abdomen to rule out Ureteric colic in consultation with your physician.

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

These blotches on my face- that weren't there until I started throwing up last night- are still here today. How long will they last? What can I do or put on my face to make them go away?

Brief Answer:
Request you for clinical photograph

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Greetings

It would be helpful if you could send clinical photograph of the face lesion. Meanwhile application of calamine lotion will be helpful.
Sorry for late reply as it was past midnight over here.

Take care
