Brief Answer:
It can be muscular injury to ribs

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and I think that you have sustained muscular injury to chest. It can be possible due to violent cough. It can be due to sudden movement also. In this condition there is pain on coughing or sneezing. I have following suggestions for you.
1.Get a chest x ray as some time there can be hair line fracture in the ribs.
2.Tablet Myoril or Myospaz should be taken for muscle relaxant.
3.Hot water fomentation and Volini gel local application.
4.Tablet Etoricoxib 90 mg one OD.
5. As you are taking Prednisone, You need to take calcium and vitamin D 3 also as prednisone makes bone weak. This will also take care of knee pain.
I hope these steps will be helpful for you.Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks

I understand the injury to the rib cage theory, but I still don't understand the other pain. That is the upper neck and both shoulders. Coincidence? Related to the rib cage muscular pain. Went to the doctors' and I was prescribed an inhaler due to trouble breathing (pain in the rib cage on deeper breathing) and a slight wheeze. I still may be fighting the previous bouts with bronchial infection. No x=ray ordered due to unremarkable wheezing. Can you help me sort this out? XXXXXXX Foell, Jr.

Brief Answer:
Your shoulder and neck pain is due to muscle spasm

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Whenever there is injury to ribs there is some spasm in shoulder and neck muscles. It is not uncommon. Muscle relaxant help in healing. As far as x ray is concern you do not need x ray for bronchitis but for rib injury. I would suggest you to continue with line of management as I advised. That will decrease your pain.
Thanks
