What Causes Pain In Neck And Upper Back Post Child Delivery?

Posted on Mon, 29 Dec 2014
Question: Hi, I just turned 49 yesterday and I have a number of odd symptoms that I feel may be related. At the age of 47 I was believed to have gone through menopause. I had had perimenopausal symptoms for years and then I bled for over a month straight. My doctor said, yes, menopause. No period for exactly a year and a half. Right after the prolonged, heavy bleeding, I began gaining weight at an alarming rate. My doctor said that was normal... I began bleeding (just like a period) again this past summer and saw an OB/GYN who did preliminary tests and seemed to think I was just one of those luck people isn't quite through with ovulating. At about the same time, I developed plantar fasciitis but now I have pain all the way up into my right ankle and sometimes I feel as if I can hardly walk. I used to be a hairstylist and stood all day but now I have a "desk" job and no relief. I also have scioliosis. I was diagnosed when I was 11 and saw an orthopaedic surgeon until it was adequately corrected at the time. I believe it has progressed substantially. When I was 32, my 3rd child was born and I began having neck and upper back problems and eventually had my back x-rayed. The doctor said that I had 2 completely degenerated discs and that was definitely not good for someone my age. Now, I have these strange symptoms and have no idea WHO to see, what to say, etc.... Any thoughts??? Thanks!!

Brief Answer:
You may need to consult orthopedic surgeon

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have studied your case.
Due to degenerative scoliosis there can be nerve compression in spine leading to ankle pain.
I will advise you to do MRI spine
For these symptoms analgesic and neurotropic medication can be started consulting your doctor.
Till time, avoid lifting weights, you can consult physiotherapist for help.
Physiotherapy like ultrasound and interferential therapy will give quick relief.
I will advise to check your vit B12 and vit D3 level.

There can be associated plantar fasciitis.
For plantar fasciitis,
Shoe/footwear should be with soft sole. You can use silicon pad insoles.
Avoid exposure of cold to foot.
Start plantar exercises consulting physiotherapist

You may need to consult orthopaedic surgeon for treatment.

Regarding bleeding: I would not comment much on it since you are already following your doctor (OBGYN) and your doctor knows well about since doctor has done clinical examination and investigations. Hormonal therapy may help you.
