What Causes Pain In Lungs, Chest, Neck And Shoulders?

default
Posted on Tue, 17 May 2016
Question: I have pain in my lungs and my chest from neck and shoulders down to chest. Excessive mucous. Our building had a flood in August and this is about the time of these symptoms showing up. I had Xrays but they showed nothing but it has not stopped, subsides occasionally when I'm not at work. I take antihistamines and they no longer give me much relief. What kind of doctor should I see other than my GP?

Brief Answer:
You should consult pulmonologist.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
In my opinion, you are mostly having bronchitis.
It is inflammation of airways. This can cause excessive mucus production and Chest, back pain.
So better to consult pulmonologist and get done
1. Clinical examination of respiratory system
2. Chest x ray
3. PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
Chest x ray is needed to rule out other Pulmonary causes.
PFT is must for the diagnosis of bronchitis.
It will also tell you about severity of the disease and treatment of bronchitis is based on severity only.
You may need inhaled bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) on the basis of PFT .
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
