Posted on Tue, 14 Jul 2015
Question: Hello, quick question.. I was having pain in my chest. more on the left side. I'M 37. recently had a heart ekg, blood workup, echocardiogram to rule out pericarditis. everything was normal. I had a chest X-ray, everything was fine. my doctor said gerd or muscle pull. but when I got my cbc bloodwork back, everything was absolutely normal except my platelet count was flagged. but it was 385?.. I guess she said it was a little high and she's going to repeat it in a month. should I be worried about it? the chest pain has resolved. when I googled high platelet count all these scary health things popped up! I just want to know why it's elevated? my WBC were fine, my red blood cells were fine. all the other bloodwork completely normal.

Brief Answer:
It is normal no need to worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern. Your chest pain is due to gastritis or muscle pain. Take treatment of that.
Your platelet count has no relation with that. Moreover normal platelet count is 1.5 to 4 lacs per cumm. Your count is 3.85. It is at high normal range but nothing to worry about that. No treatment is required. Just be relaxed.
Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.

my platelet count was 385k but it looks like when I was reading the lab results it was not sure if that was high. the Dr. seemed concerned, but just wanted it repeated in a month.

Brief Answer:
Yes above 450 is high.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I can understand your concern.
Platelet count above 450 is high.
But even above 450 count is commonly seen in routine infection and anemia and is due to reactive thrombocytosis. So slightly high platelet count is also not significant much. Very high platelet count is significant.

Thank you. I don't have any infection I guess that is why I got so worried, but if you think 385 is not too bad I will just get it repeated in 1 month.
