Question: Hi...I went swimming with my son in Saturday in a public pool and while swimming I must admit I had an urge to go and began to urinate as I was swimming to get out of the pool...while urinating a felt a pain at the tip of my penis...I felt more discomfort Sun and Mon and went to the clinic Mon..I had Cipro and began taking Sun..I think it's resolving but wasn't sure if chlorine could have irritated my urethra? Many thx

Yes, it's possible that the chlorine and other water treatments in the pool water may have irritated your urethra. It's also possible that you already had a bladder infection which may have caused the the urinary incontinence you had in the pool.

For now, increase your water intake and avoid acidic foods such as citrus and tomatoes, highly spicy foods, and alcohol, until your discomfort completely resolves.
