What Causes Pain And Swelling In Throat?
Question: Due to pain and swelling in right hand side of tonsils with pus, I am taking following medicines for acute tonsillitis and had been advised to take Amikacin 500mg injection daily twice morning and evening for 3 days:
1)Augmentin 625mg [2 times a day] for 5days
2)Metrogyl 400mg [tds for 5 days]
3)Inj Amikacon 500mg [[2 times a day] for 3days
4)Umanoflam-D [2 times a day] for 5days
Now i would like to know the following:
1)Can i have the frequency of injection daily once instead of twice as there is pain and stop it in case of relief
2)Can i also take augmentein for 3 days instead of 5 days i think the course for this is 3 days pls correct if wrong
3)Tab Umanoflam-D is not available so what are the consequences if i donot take it.
Also i would like to know the reason for having very frequent tonsillitis infection as it happened twice in a month.

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.
I see similar cases amongst young people who visit my clinic, Pain with pus suggests peritonsillar abscess ( Quincy).
It is a severe form of tonsillitis, requires aggressive treatment with antibiotics.

1. inj. amikacin 500 mg twice daily for 5 to 7 days, intravenous through iv cannula. it should be twice daily.
2. Tab. Augmentin 625 mg twice daily for 7 days is an adult dose.
3. Tab. omnaflam- d Is a combination of anti inflammatory with analgesic. helps in eary healing and relelives the pain.
The reasons for repeated infections could be, bad oral hygiene, smoking, alcohol, immunocompromised ( diabetes, on cancer drugs, with tuberculosis) or with chronic sinusitis.
I suggest you to continue the medications as per the shedule and also continue hydrogen peroxide gargling. Have a gauze over the factors, I have already mentioned.

Thanks for the reply, i am non smoker, non alcoholic and at present taking injection on hip area is it ok?Also observing that there is lots of swelling after taking once injection in the mornign pls advice.

Thanks very much for the advice, as i am feeling little bit better after taking 1 injection and would like to go for second injection in the evening and depends upon relief i would like to get rid for injection and would like to continue the rest of the mecidices course as prescribed for 5 days shall i continue them for 3 days in case of complete relief. Please suggest and also provide details on removal of tonsillitis procedure like how long does it take to operate and time to recover and best time to operate like winter or summer time. Does tonsillitis also occur after removal any complications after operation.What food shall i avoid and take.Using betadine for gargles is it ok 3 times a day?

Tonsillectomy is a procedure, done under general anesthesia, 1- 1.5 hours surgery, can be done at any season. as such, bleeding is the complication. do not worry, your treating surgeon will take care. you need 24- 48 hours admission and 3-5 days rest at home.
Post surgery, there will not be any episodes of tonsillitis. (it will not grow).
Precautions- you have to stop consuming chilled products ( curd/ ice cream, cold water) . Maintain good oral hygiene, get proper treatment for nasal allergies.
