What Causes Occasional Food In Esophagus?

default
Posted on Wed, 16 Dec 2015
Question: I occasionally get food in my esophagus. The only time it ever happens is at dinner time when I sit down with my parents to eat. I eat breakfast I am fine and the same with dinner. I also wear dentures and use Fixodent if that has anything to do with it. Their is always tension at the table. I live with them and dad is in poor health. Hadnt happened but once in the last 6 months but twice in the last three months. I am also on Eskalith for Bi polar disease and have been for 15 years. I cough a couple times and everything is fine again. I know I need to see a doctor but cant get in until at least Thanksgiving is over. Don't want to die either. Need suggestions. Need help. Thank you in advance XXXXXXX

I also burp a lot if that has anything to do with it.

I meant to say it doesnt happen at lunch but has happened twice in the last three days. Sorry for my typing.

Brief Answer:
GERD, capsule omeprazole

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
I have gone through your query, and I do understand your concern.

One of the commonest cause for your symptom which is food in the esophagus is Gastroesophageal reflux disease. Stress is also one of the precipitating factor.

I would suggest you to take capsule omeprazole 20 mg twice daily half an hour before food for 5 days and then daily once empty stomach in the morning for next 10 days.
Apart from these I would suggest you to avoid spicy food, alcohol, smoking and consume bland diet for few days. Eat diet Rich in fibres. You should not lie down immediately after food walk for 10 to 15 minuets after having food.
Your symptoms should respond and reduce with this measures.

Hope this helps, I'll be glad to address further queries, if you don't have any further questions kindly close the query.
Wish you speedy recovery.
Take care.

Brief Answer:
omeprazole is better than the antacid

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Good to hear from you.
Gaviscon is an antacid, useful for producing quick symptomatic relief. I would suggest you to use the omeprazole which is found to be more helpful.

Hope this helps.
