Brief Answer:
Persisting numbness needs to be evaluated at ER

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.

Sorry to hear that you hurt yourself this afternoon.
Hope the pain is bearable and you are not having any other symptoms except for a bump on the head and numbness in the fingers.

You might have got a scalp swelling after being hit on the head. Head injuries need to be observed for the first 24 hours. The following are alarming symptoms of a head injury that needs a doctors attention.

1. Vomiting
2. Seizures
3. Persisting neurological deficits (numbness is a neurological deficit)
4. Difficulty in maintaining gait
5. Vision problems
6. Increasing severity of headache

If any of the above symptoms have occurred and are present even after 24 hours then you need to see a doctor and get a CT scan brain done. Since you complain of persisting numbness in the left side fingers (even after 8 hours following head injury), it would help to see a doctor at the ER and get a complete clinical neurological examination done. If necessary a CT scan of the head may be done to evaluate for any cause ion the head.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
