What Causes Needle Like Pains In Upper Abdomen?
Question: I have sharp non regular needle like pains in the top of my abdo off centre to the left, had recent ultra sound that found fatty liver, have now got tummy sounds that i dont usually have and abdo bloated and swollen

Did it start after having some oily or fatty food?
It sounds like Gastritis which occurs due to increased gastric acid secretion in the stomach. Since your Ultrasound is normal it is all the more likely that you have Gastritis. You should avoid fatty foods, oils and processed foods. For my patients I would advice Cap Omeprazole or Tab Pantoprazole twice a day on empty stomach for three months. Along with diet modification and some regular exercise you should be fine but it will take a few weeks to see improvement.

went to doc originally for sharp pain right hand side - found fatty liver, about a month ago. then this last week lots of tummy noises, this needle prick sensation (not pins and niddles) in upper left side just below bra line and swollen upper abdo - have avoided all fat and acohol, pain not there all the time, but just generally feeling of upper abdo unease
