What Causes Neck Stiffness And Inflamed Gall Bladder When Diagnosed With Diverticulitis?

default
Posted on Tue, 6 Sep 2016
Question: I took flagyl last week for suspected diverticulitis (also took cipro). I developed a stiff neck after two and a half days of the medication, and then discontinued it upon advice of my doctor. I no longer have pain on both sides of my neck as I did while taking flagyl, but still have some neck stiffness. A C/T scan showed no diverticulitis, but a slightly inflamed gall bladder. I am an almost 70 year old female diabetic (type 2). My Doctor is on vacation. I am concerned that I should be seeking additional medical assistance.

Brief Answer:
You need another antibiotic

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
Well, you should take another antibiotic for gallbladder inflammation especially considering that you are diabetic. Cephalospprine is possible alternative. Also, surgery may be considered if inflammation progresses. Stiff neck is not usual side effect of ciprofloxacin but it is possible so it should be discontinued. Wish you good health. Regards
