Brief Answer:
This could be due to hormonal changes or due to panic disorder.

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. The symptoms like waking up with crying, muscles tightening, crying while sleeping etc could occur due to a number of reasons. You are 47 years old female and hormonal factors are most probable cause for these symptoms. A lot of females in pre-menopausal age suffer from such symptoms. Though they have normal menstrual cycle but underlying hormonal changes result in symptoms like sudden mood swings, crying spells etc. Some times sweating in night, sudden panic attacks, tiredness, fatiguability etc are also observed. Other possibility for these symptoms is panic disorder. Panic might present with similar symptoms like crying spells, muscle soreness etc.

You have been advised to take Prozac, Xanax, Thyroid and Progesterone. Out of these medicines Prozac, Xanax both will work to reduce the anxiety and will reduce the frequency of these episodes. Prozac is Fluoxetine and the drug is an anti-anxiety drug and will help to reduce the mood swings, night time crying, muscle tightness. In normal cases the drug takes about 4-6 weeks to show its full effects because the drug cause changes at molecular levels. Progesterone doses will help to reduce the symptoms also. If the symptoms are intolerable then Xanax on SOS basis can help to reduce the symptoms. The drug will help to reduce the acute symptoms.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Please don't hesitate to ask again if you have more doubts or if you want to clear more things.

Take care
