Posted on Mon, 17 Apr 2017
Question: Major pain on lower left side of back. Rode in truck 9 hrs yesterday. Not sure if an issue. May be in muscle rather than skeletal related. Got in hot tub last evening and made it worse. Have continued to apply heat but not getting much relief. Have taken Alleve this morning but not much difference. Thanks..

Brief Answer:
Most likely to be muscular pain.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I am Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon.

You have pain on lower side of back on left side after prolonged truck journey. This is most likely to be muscular pain.

I'd suggest to continue with pain killers and muscle relaxant (Tylenol and Ibuprofen instead of Aleve). Additionally start taking hot fomentation, local application of analgesic cream(eg. Diclofenac gel) twice daily and physiotherapy. If you don't feel relief in few days then go for an x-ray.

Thanks for the question. Please feel free to ask any other question.
