What Causes Lower Heart Rate After Physical Activity?

default
Posted on Sat, 18 Jun 2016
Question: After starting an exercise regimen about a year ago, I have worked up to jogging approx. 5 miles a day, 5-6 days a week. Over this time I have noticed on my fitbit that my resting heart rate has dropped from the low 70's to the low 50's. Dr. Google tells me that this is bradycardia. is this a cause for concern or is this a normal response to becoming physically fit?

Brief Answer:
It suggests that your heart is conditioned by exercise

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I am Dr.Rajesh Teli,MD.
I have gone through your query. Thanks for using HCM.
when anyone undergoes proper exercise, physiologically the tone in Vagus nerve develops and it leads to slowing of heart rate. All athelets have lower heart rate because of high vagal tone.In your case it may be same effect however you must get an ECG done and evaluation by physician to rule out anything abnormal.
once it turns out to be normal you can be happy and consider yourself a true athelet
My best wishes
Dr.Teli.
