What Causes Low Estrogen Level While Trying To Conceive?

default
Posted on Thu, 3 Dec 2015
Question: Hi, my husband and I are trying to conceive and are undertaking a series of clomid cycles. I recently took 75 as 25 and 50 did nothing, however, my estrogen levels are not rising. I have an ovulation predictor kit and it says I ovulated but at my blood test my estrogen was only 140. What does this mean? Does it mean I have low quality eggs? I am only 33.

Brief Answer:
Can be due to low quality eggs.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
At the time of ovulation the estrogen level rises to 200-300 pg/ml. If you have a level of 144 at the time of ovulation then it indicates a poor quality of eggs. If the levels of estrogen are low at day 2 or 3 then it can be suggestive of perimenopause.
Do consult your gynecologist for proper hormonal treatment.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.

Hi Dr XXXXXXX

Thanks for your response. Is it still possible to become pregnant with poor quality eggs or premenopausal as described above?

Brief Answer:
Yes. Possibility of pregnancy is there.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The possibility of pregnancy is there. But it is better to try for assisted reproductive techniques like IVF for earlier conception.
Hope my answer is helpful.
