What Causes Light Vaginal Bleeding During Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Fri, 27 Mar 2015
Question: Hi, I'm currently 7 weeks pregnant but woke up yesterday and realized I was bleeding. It was initially a light flow with a dark brown discharge. It became heavier this morning with severe cramps like the one I get when I'm on my menstrual flow. I decided to go for a scan and was told that the uterus is bulky with 8.9X5.4x6.6cm dimension and the endometrial cavity habits a collapsed gestational sac. The scan report also says that the corpus luteum is noted at the left abnexal region and that the POD is reserved. The doctor said that I'm having a case of threatened miscarriage and advised that I repeat scan in one week. I'm so worried and do not want to loose this pregnancy. Is there any chance that the pregnancy can go on and I'll have the baby healthy? Pls advice

Brief Answer:
It is unlikely that this pregnancy would carry on!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this bleeding and the ultrasound findings. I have reviewed your information fully and there are very little chances that this pregnancy would carry on with all the findings reported. A sac is where teh growing fetus is and for the doctor to say it is collapsed is concerning. Also, the severe cramps and the the amount of bleeding makes this to sound more like an inevitable or incomplete abortion.

I understand your concerns and your utmost desire to keep this pregnancy. My advice is that you stay calm and let's observe what comes out of it. At this time, I will recommend rest, fluid intake and maintaining a positive state of mind. Any pregnancy that has issues from the early weeks is better off allowed alone as most of the problems arose from inherent abnormalities with the baby.

I hope this addresses you query fully. I wish you well and thank you so much for using our services. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
