What Causes Left Arm Numbness Followed By Extremity Involvement And Tongue Numbness?

default
Posted on Fri, 1 Apr 2016
Question: Hello Dr, This morning I woke up and first I felt a pain on my left upper arm, then later I felt my tongue was somewhat numbed. I was on the phone talking and noticed that my speech was slow and I was a little disoriented. What followed next my right arm started to become a little numbed and this spread up to the lower part of my face. I became a little scare and took two aspirins. Later, this feeling slowly left. MY question was I having a mild heart attack? Thank for your review. XXXXXXX age 65 years

Brief Answer:
Transient Ischemic Attack

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Left arm numbness followed by lower extremity involvement and numbness of tongue and slurriness of speech for a while is not heart a attack but more likely a transient ischemic attack. You need to be pe put on antiplatelets and lipid lowering agents and small doses of aspirin to prevent future stroke.

I would like you to get evaluated by neurologist and let them rule out any imminent stroke risk and give you the right prophylactic medication for the management.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and don't forget to close the discussion please.

Khan
