What Causes Itching Sensation Around Anal Area?

Question: Hi, this consultation request is for my wife. She has been having itching in skin area around her anus and at the mouth of anus from past 6-7 months, we have visited gynacologist multiple times in XXXXXXX (Dr Anjum) and XXXXXXX (Dr Imrana), all precriptions are attached for reference . We have followed all the medicines but permanent solution if no where in sight. Itching severity increases when she needs to go to washrom for stool and after stool passing itching get reduced. Apart from that itching has been there, sometimes she gets relieves for sometime and then after sometime she start getting itching again. sometime severity is so intense that due to scratcing the surface gets reddish. As per gycanolist, she is not having piles. Nowdays her skin near her anus and buttocks are rough too

Hello,
Your wife has got pruritus ani which involves itching in the perianal area.
Sometimes it can be caused due to systemic diseases.
I would advise you to visit a gastroenterologist. You would need a sigmoidoscopy / colonoscopy and blood work up.
In the meantime I would suggest a high fibre diet , fibre supplement in the form of psyllium husk with water.
Avoid applying strong detergent soap to the peri anal region.
Avoid recurrent scratching and rubbing. Use a mild soap with moisturizer for was the area.
