Posted on Mon, 15 Sep 2014
Question: Hi
My mother started feeling too much of tiredness, lost sleep for last 2 months. She became very week and we took her to few doctors. She is 75 years old and knee operated.
We took her to one of the best hospitals in XXXXXXX and they suggested XXXXXXX citizen health check.
All here reports came as normal with 2 deviations

1. GTTP was at elevated level (60)
2. She showed osteoporosis and Osteopenia issues

Now she also started showing jerks, rubbing hands as if itching(looks like she has some sensations)and we felt like neuro issues
Doctors tested and found her hands were prodcuing tremors and advised a brain CT scan. The reports were normal

Doctors prescribed below medicines but we have not yet started yet as she started showing neuro issue symptoms

Zolfresh for sleep
tab Prohyp for liver
tab octeomds 70 mgs once a week
tab ccm once daily

Doctors are yet to see the brain CT scan reports .Am wondering what could be the likely root cause for this issue and possible medications to make relieved.

Thanks in advance XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Senile atrophy or Parkinsonism

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your query.

The symptoms you mother is suffering from with a normal blood reports indicates a organic brain disease. Considering the age and the type of symptoms she has she could be having senile atrophy or the brain due to age related degeneration. The symptoms also resemble a disease often seen in old individuals, Parkinsonism.

I suggest you to start the above medications as they are supportive and helpful but not definitive treatment. A neurologist consultation is what necessary here, he /she is the only specialist who can diagnose this condition by correlating the features in the scan and examination findings.

Need not worry about The ggt its irrelevant and non-serious finding.

Hope, I answered your query.

Wish you good health.
