What Causes Intermittent Pain In The Breasts?

default
Posted on Tue, 8 Nov 2016
Question: Good Morning,
I have had intermittent pain in both breasts for a couple of weeks now. it is worse in the left breast. I cannot feel any lumps or anything unusual and both breasts look normal, no puckering or discolouration. I can get up from sitting or change position and I get a shooting pain. If I press down on the breast or anyone touches them there is discomfort. Should I be concerned?

Brief Answer:
Mammography should be done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The intermittent pain in the breasts can be due to hormonal changes in the body in the perimenopausal years. It is good that there are no palpable lumps but it is best to get a mammography done to rule out any lumps. This is not likely to be a muscular pain. Taking Vitamin E supplements and evening primrose oil can help.
