What Causes Intermittent Pain In Neck Area?

default
Posted on Tue, 11 Aug 2015
Question: I have had a pain in my neck for a few years. It is on the back left side and is intermittant. When it does hurt, it will be for half a second then quit for a minute then another sharp pain for half a second that continues off and on throughout the day. For 5 months in the winter, I drive a tractor for 3 hours per day where I am turning my head to the right to watch the machine I am pulling. I don't know if this is a contributing factor.

Brief Answer:
Most likely a muscle pull of Trapezius

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mam.
I believe that the pain is due to a muscular pull in your neck area. It is most likely a Trapezius muscle strain. It is definitely getting aggravated by your right sided turns on the tractor. And your posture could be adding to the strain.
You should try and relax the muscles that move your neck left and right and slowly start exercises to strengthen the neck turning muscles.
I usually advice my patients Tab Cipzox MR for episodes of severe pain and it relaxes the muscles.
Warm compresses and relaxation postures would help you.
You should consult a Physiotherapist who can assist in what all exercises you should indulge in.
Do let me know if there are other queries.
Take care.
