Question: Hi doc,
My baby is almost 9 months old and is teething. She has severe case of diarrhea( extremely watery stool) and we did a stool routine on recommendation of our pediatrician. Results were excess of fat globules in the stool. We are giving her enterigermina twice daily, 2.5 ml. Doctor suggested it's mainly due to indigestion of my breastmilk. I have also started giving her zerolac, on doctors advise. She has been on and off antibiotics due to.chronic ear infections. Pls help, very worried about her.

Brief Answer:
No need to worry. Fluid intake needs to be ensured.

I have gone through your query. Let me assure you that malabsorption might be a possible cause but so long as the breastfeeding is continued you need not worry. If the child passes urine more than 6-8 times in 24 hours you need not worry. It may take a few days for the loose stools to subside. AntibAntibiotics are unlikely to help.

Thanks doctor for the assurance. Her weight gain also seems to be slowed down after starting on solids post 6 months of exclusive breastfeeding. She was born prematurely at 35 weeks with 2.2 kgs. Today she is 6.8 kg at 9 months. Could you pls suggest food accordingly, after we started on ghee she had loose motions as well.I now worry about malabsorption as the cause for it. I still breastfeed her. She seems like a tiny baby but healthy and active. Also, her MMR vaccine is coming up,I'm worried to give her the vaccine, since he last vaccination she was admitted in hospital for suspected epiglottitis. Can I postpone mmr vaccination for next 2-3 years?

Brief Answer:
Food list provided.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. The birth weight of a child should double by 5 months of age and triple by 10-12 months of age. So, the weight gain is perfectly fine and you need not worry about the same.

You can start with thick liquids like dal water or fruit juices, gradually move over to semi-solids or mashed foods, and subsequently start with pounded food. Consider your ABCs - applesauce, bananas, and cereal (rice, biscuits dipped in milk, or roti softened with milk/water). Boiled rice and dal with vegetables and give in mashed form. Gradually increase the amount and frequency. Introduce one new food item per week and stick to it at least for the week.

No need to worry about MMR. You should not postpone it. The last admission was unrelated to the vaccination.

Hopefully that clears your query.
