What Causes Increased SGPT Level When Suffering From Dengue?

default
Posted on Thu, 20 Nov 2014
Question: Hello Doctor,

My wife was suffering from Dengue for one week. Based on CBC test on 20 Oct 2014 her Patellate count was 116000 and WBC was 2200 , next day i.e. on 21 Oct 2014 again CBC test has been carried out and Patellate count became 91000. Then she has been under treatment for next 2 days and on 22 Oct and 23 Oct 2014 Patellate count has been reported 105000 and 164000 respectively and she has been then discharged from Hospital.
On 27-Oct-2014 doctor called for another checkup and as per report everything was fine excluding SGPT
as on 27-Oct-2014 Patellate count is 310000, WBC count around 6100 and rest all also within normal range including Haemoglobin 11.4, but SGPT is 273.

However doctor given a tabulate for that as well but
having SGPT 273 is dangerous? and what else I can do to reduce her SGPT to normal value and how much time it take to get reduced SGPT within normal range? And after dengue why it has been increased as although I am not aware of earlier value of SGPT but before getting admitted for dengue Doctor has not told me anything about SGPT..
Please advice
Thanks
doctor

Brief Answer:
Increased SGPT may be due to dengue.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX

I have gone through your wife's report is detail. It is good that she is recovering from dengue fever.

Increased SGPT indicates liver injury.SGPT commonly increases in dengue fever.

She may need further investigations like viral markers, ultrasound of abdomen if needed.

In such condition,I suggest tablet ursodeoxycholic acid 300 mg twice daily for three months to my patients. It helps in regeneration of liver cells.

Don't worry. She will recover soon. She only need follow up for SGPT.

Get well soon.
Hope i have answered your query.
Further queries are most welcome.

Take Care
