What Causes Hip Pain And Radiating To The Thighs?

default
Posted on Tue, 1 Apr 2014
Question: I have constant pain in my left pelvic area where the joint connects the thigh to the pelvis. A doctor thought this could be caused by a swelling in the seminal vesicle which he detected by a rectal ultra sound. I have been using antibiotics for a week and a half but no cure. I went to a chiropracter---no relief from pain. Pain is in also left thigh and I limp a little. Sometimes there is a feeling of heat in left thigh and slight burning sensation groin with back pain as well. I feel no pain, however, when urinating but I feel much fatigue. It is painful especially when sitting as well.

Brief Answer: Pain may be due to lumbar disc prolapse. Detailed Answer: Hello XXXX Thanks for writing to HCM You need proper clinical examination and investigations. Hip pain and its radiation to thigh may be due to lumbar disc prolapse. Other causes should also be ruled out like urinary tract calculus, infection etc. You need proper clinical examination and investigations.Investigations include Routine hemogram,Random blood sugar(RBS),Liver function test(LFT),Renal function test(RFT),Lipid profile,Thyroid profile,Serum calcium and Vitamin D level,Urine RE/ME,Ultrasound of abdomen,X-ray L/S Spine (AP/Lateral view).MRI of L/S Spine should also be done to confirm disc prolapse. Further investigations can be done if needed. Ultrasound of abdomen can exclude many abdominal pathology. At present you can take tablet Acelofenac 100 mg twice daily for five days. Tablet Pantoprazole 40 mg once daily half hour before food can be taken as Acelofenac may cause gastric irritation. You should also modify your posture while sitting, standing and don't abruptly bend forward.Don't stand for prolong period.During standing position try to stand over one leg at a time so that entire body weight comes over one leg and other leg is in resting/folded position. Proper treatment is possible after confirmation of cause. You can consult your neurologist. Get well soon. Hope i have answered your query. Further queries are most welcome. Take Care Dr.Indu XXXXXXX
