Question: I took fluconozole 2 days ago. - 150mg, last night I could not sleep and my bp is 165/103, normal bp for me is about 135/75. Could this elevated bp be the result of the fluconozole? I also had a cold and took some robitussin cough medicine last night.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I understand your concern and would explain that high blood pressure is not an adverse effect related to fluconazole or Robitussin.

But inflammation from the cold could be the cause of your high blood pressure values.

Anyway a single episode of high blood pressure does not indicate uncontrolled high blood pressure and the need for treatment.

I recommend you to have some rest in the next days and reduce salt and caffeine intake.

A close monitoring of your blood pressure values is important too.

If high blood pressure values persist in the next days, I recommend consulting with your attending physician for a physical exam and some tests ( complete blood count, PCR, ESR, blood electrolytes, kidney and liver function tests) in order to exclude other secondary causes of high blood pressure.

Hope to have been helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr.Iliri
