What Causes Heavy Clotted Menstrual Bleeding And Dizziness?

default
Posted on Thu, 3 Dec 2015
Question: For the past 3 years my period has been extremely heavy, and lasts for months at a time. I also frequently pass large rubbery clots, anywhere from the size of quarters to a bit bigger than golf balls. I've always had an irrigular period, (starting when I was 15, I am 25 now) when I talked to doctors before all they wanted to do was put me in the pill, so I just stopped going for this problem. But the clots have just been getting worse the past few years. I am probably passing a little over a fourth of a cup a day in clots alone now, and that doesn't count the heavy bleeding I am still dealing with. I always feel dizzy or tired now, and have almost passed out a few times. I am thinkin about going to a doctor, but I really don't want to be told again that 'there is nothing wrong but we can put you on the pill anyways'. Do I need to go to a specialist? This can't be normal is it?

can go to an gynaecologist

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

You should consider seeing a gynecologist for assessment.

It is possible that you may have fibroids, this is a common cause of heavy bleeding with clots.
An ultrasound of the abdomen/pelvis would determine this and also can check for any other uterine problems.

There are other causes as well such as: (1)infections
(2)bleeding disorders-
(3)liver or kidney disease
(4)thyroid disease
(5)endometriosis
(6)side effect of medication

Blood tests can check the state of the liver, kidneys, thyroid and can also assess for infection or bleeding disorders.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
