Brief Answer:
I were to check the heart function first

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear. Thanks for giving me an opportunity to answer your query.

According to me heaviness of the chest is most commonly seen due to reduced function of the heart due to a blockade of the blood vessels supplying the heart.I would examine, do an ECG and further a 2D echocardiograph (if ECG is abnormal) without further delay to rule out if the discomfort(heaviness and respiratory distress) due to cardiac origin.Suggest to visit the nearest emergency department as soon as possible.

I would be glad to know some more information.

How does the heaviness and breathing difficulty subside? With rest?
Do you have breathing difficulty when you sleep at night which would wake you up during sleep?
Do you have a pounding heart beat?Sweating?
Do you have chest pain?
Do you have any history of respiratory problems in the past?
Are you a smoker?Do you consume alcohol? If yes, how frequently?
May I know your nature of job?
Do you have any other medical history?

If you answer the following questions I will be better able to help.

Was there a history of recent respiratory tract infection?
