What Causes Headaches And Dizziness After Breastfeeding?

default
Posted on Mon, 4 Aug 2014
Question: Nowadays since last 2 weeks, my wife who is 28 years old, started complaining of significant headache and dizziness just after she feeds our 14 month old daughter. She seems to take proper or sometimes high calorie diet. Her headache and dizziness relaxes completely when she doesn't feed our child for a prolonged period of 7-10 hours. Is it normal while feeding? She never had this kind of issue after feeding.

Brief Answer:
NO SUCH CONNECTION

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
There is no such connection between breastfeeding and headache / dizziness.
Ask your wife to take lots of fluids, drink atleast 2 glasses of water just before breastfeeding and 1 glass of water while breastfeeding.
She can try varying positions of feeding instead of just sitting, there is an ideal posture where she can lie down and relax while feeding the child.

Your wife should be taking a high calorie , and proper iron and calcium supplements.
All the best
