Posted on Mon, 20 Apr 2015
Question: I am 73 and 3 weeks ago I had a root canal, acute sinusitis and a stomach bug all at the same time.
I have recovered but today feel headachy, tired and washed out.
What I can do to regain strength and stamina, and lose my headache?

Brief Answer:
??Dehydration or low blood glucose level; eat and drink well

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query and would like you to know that I am here to help. A headache and exhaustion together point towards either of the two:

+Low blood sugar levels: I would recommend you to eat better. The stomach bug may have made it difficult for you to eat normal food, and keep it down as it may be causing your nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea while it was active. So this may have caused you to lose your appetite and eat less. The root canal may have also made it difficult to eat solid and semi-solid food.

I would thus recommend you to increase your intake and eat more quality food.

+Dehydration: The stomach bug and sinusitis may have caused loss of fluids, and unless you have been replenishing your fluid level, this can result in dehydration which can present with dry skin or lips, tiredness and headaches. I would recommend you drink at least 2-3 L of water per day along with oral rehydration solutions (ORS) which have a lot of essential electrolytes as well which may have been lost with your stomach infection

For now, you can take any mild pain management medication like ibuprofen, paracetamol or nimesulide (if you are not allergic to any medications) for the headache.

I hope you find my response both helpful and informative. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications. I would be more than happy to help.

Best wishes.
