Question: My name is Constantina. I am 44 years old. I have noticed a hard lump on my left hand and i would like your medical consultation.

* Hard lump on hand can be due to various reasons ranging from benign lesions
to malignant ones .
* For precise evaluation of the case in regards with differential diagnosis I need
following details from your side , receiving of which I will immediately revert
to you for further clarifications :
1. lump - duration , consistency uniform or different in various parts , pain ,
overlying skin changes , temperature difference , size , movements possible
in relation to underlying structures , progress since appearance
2. history of any injury /compression effect / insect bite
3. difficulty in work / hand movements
4. other lumps in the body
5. any other diseases like diabetes / any other medications taking
6. appetite / change in general body system since lump like weight alterations
fever etc.
7. photograph attached is showing half the lesion , kindly manage to take full
photograph of the swelling along with clear vision of near & far areas of the
whole upper limb including your fingers & elbow also.
8. Family history of any such disorder

1.      I first noticed the lump, last Sunday, May 7th, 2017 while moving my hand.
Uniformity inn the area of the lump.
Pain, only when I press it myself, but not a particularly intense pain.
No overlying skin changes
No temperature difference
Size: about 15mm
No movement limitation
It didn’t have any particular difference at its size since Sunday.

2.     I had hair removal in the area using laser procedure
3.     Not any difficulty at work (office - typing) / I did have some hand movements recently, by carrying some pets-food bags and taking care of a chicken farm with not any problem
4.     No other
5.     No other
6.     Very good appetite/ no any other changes
7.     I send you newer photographs
8.     No such disorder in family

Benign lump,conservative treatment presently,surgery if needed later on.

Respected Constantina, hi thanks for details & clear photographs.
* This is Sebaceous cyst involving your left forearm more likely / Foliculitis
following laser hair removal giving rise to subcutaneous bump less likely .
* Purely benign condition , not stressful at all .
* In our clinic , we recommend Cephalosporin group of antibiotics , anti-
inflammatory agents for 5 days & follow up after that.
- take care not to injure over it / do not rub it
- no restrictions of work can perform all the routines
- keep the area clean & dry
- need of any surgical intervention depends upon the response to treatment &
follow up evaluations .
