What Causes Frequent Urination After Eating Spicy Foods Or Consuming Alcohol?

Posted on Wed, 5 Aug 2015
Question: Hi My follow-up question is it seems to happen more after eating spicy foods and or drinking alcoholic beverages. Sometimes it takes just a couple of drinks and I have to go to the bathroom every hour. I am ANXIETY prone, perhaps this is part of the problem.I have the urge to go during the day if I get nervous or under stress DR has given me tranquilizers .25 for that. 3 years ago had a camera down my penis to look for tumor, none was found and I do not want to go through that test ever again. Not an alcoholic by the way...Colas has the same effect on me as well .frustrated and embarrassed with this situation, afraid to go on trips because of this and wishing I could find the answer or suggestions to help me. What are your thoughts ? thanks

Brief Answer:
this is not uncommon condition

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
I understand your concerns.
But this is not uncommon condition and many men have it and you should not be embarassed. Beside cutting down alcohol and coffee and avoiding drinking prior to sleep there are few things that can be done.

Use an alarm clock to wake you a couple of hours after going to bed, and a couple of hours before your usual waking time. Vary the time every few days, to avoid getting into the habit of emptying the bladder at the same time each night.

Try to sleep in a different position, place a pillow under your knees – some people find this helps.

Pychosomatic effect is the major cause in most people so you need to work on your anxiety and stress. Try to sleep using relaxing music.
Drugs that are used are mostly oxybutynin and desmoperssin,it will affect bladder muscle tonus.

If those activities dont help, you should do more detailed work up including cystography and cystoscopy.

Wish you good health. Regards
