Can Filling Bladder With Visipague Via A Catheter Cause Any Side Effcts?

Are there any contraindications for filling bladder with Visipague via a catheter? Patient with bladder cancer, has two hip prosthesis which cause significant CT image artifacts. Rather than using IV administration, doctor would like to put approx. 20-30cc ov Visipaque 320mg I/ml into bladder using catheter. Hoping to visualise bladder better on CT images WWW.WWWW.WW

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* As per my surgical experience, VIsipague is FDA approved agent for contrast evaluation of the urinary system.

* The preparation comes in a sterile pack and one can predict minor side effects as bladder irritation, burning urination post-procedure in routine cases.

* The condition before administering is that the person must not be sensitive to the agent otherwise there can be anaphylaxis or other reactions affecting the whole body system.

* The contrast is administered by standby anesthetic attending the procedure and so one must discuss all the points with the consultant before approaching for the same.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
