What Causes Fever And Nausea After Taking Nitrofurantoin?

Question: I have been on nitrofuran monohyd macro 100mg for 4 days for a UTI. After starting the medication I developed fever 102degrees nausea, swollen glands under my arms and nausea. I also have had some very vivid and alarming "visions " and dreams. I was diagnosed with food poisoning ,but this does not feel like food poisoning. I am wondering if it is the medication.

Side effects mostly due to medication.

Detailed Answer:
Side effect of drugs used by you for UTI is mainly hypersensitivity, loose motion nausea, respiratory problem, fever with chill , oliguria etc. No side effect are reported for eye problem as you have informed. How ever since fever you have developed the drug can be discontinued. You can consult your treating doctor for a change of drug. Many alternative drugs are available.
Now if your eye problem are due to drug you should improve.If eye problem persist then it is separate entity. There should be further investigation and complete eye examination. Many of your symptoms are due to medications, you will improve with withdrawing from drug it is not food poisoning.
