Question: helloi have panic disorder and depression. ive been taking buspar 5 mg for 6 days and Zoloft 100mg for 5 days. my anxiety symptoms have gone down, however I am having some weird side effects. I wake up a few time for thirty seconds or less in themiddle of the night and when I wake up in the morning I am overly aware of things, I zone into my surrounding and have racing thoughts. my limbs feel light and I am tired throughout the day. I amso get this weird head feeling in my forhead that makes me feel off balanced and then I get a falling over sensation body. is this normal or should I be concerned? also my breathing is more shallow than it use to be

my lower chest also feels overly light, in a way kinda weightless

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

What you are describing is a well-known paradoxical somatic anxiety reaction to initiation of an antidepressant (Zoloft). These are not dangerous symptoms and are simply somatic symptoms of anxiety. These symptoms typically resolve in 7-14 days. If they persist beyond that, you can try switching to a new antidepressant.

Detailed Answer:
To clarify, symptoms typically resolve 7-14 days after the most recent dose increase, not after the medication was originally started. Buspar does not cause heart attacks.
