Posted on Mon, 23 Mar 2015
Question: i think i have balanitis. Enlarged penis head and very swollen foreskin. Painful urination, and always in small amounts. Initiallt about 4 days ago there was a creamy discharge within the foreskin area but not anymore. I was taking acyclovir and am on my 5th day of it, and had been using fucidin cream. Initially it seemed yo get much better then suddenly about 2 days ago aboutnwhen the discharge stopped it got swollen again. Is this normal and should i continue using fucidin and conplete my 6 day acyclovir antibiotic tablets- im on day four now. Tks for your help.

Brief Answer:
You should be on antibiotics.

Detailed Answer:
Good Day and thank you for being with Healthcare Magic!

Why are you taking acyclovir? This is an antiviral drug commonly used to treat herpes and chicken pox. If you are prescribed acyclovir then I would suggest to continue it.

Balanitis and posthitis are inflammation of the head of the penis and the preputial skin respectively. They usually go hand in hand and treatment is the same for both conditions.

You should be on antibiotics (e.g. ciprofloxacin or cefuroxime) to treat the bacterial infection. You may need to see your MD to get a prescription for the antibiotics. Wash your penis with soap and water and make sure to remove all creamy discharge that you see.
