What Causes Elevated Heart Rate In A Child?

default
Posted on Fri, 21 Oct 2016
Question: Hello. I wanted to ask something about my 3 year old girl. I often have a doubt that she has an elevated heartbeat for minute. Today I measured while she was sleeping and it was like 98 heartbeat for a minute. Is it normal? She has not had any kind of problem since birth except when she was about 18 month that was a little anemic. I havent done anymore blood analysis cause she cries a lot but I dont know if this is linked to heartbeat numbers.
Thank you

Brief Answer:
It is normal heart rate for the age, do not worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi... even while sleeping this is normal heart rate for the age 3 year old.

Heart rate can be anywhere between 80 to 120 in sleep and wak ful states.

Unless the kid is having breathlessness or sweating a lot or having bluish discoloration over the hands and feet fingers or having severe pain in the tummy and abdominal distention with swelling of feet and face, you need not worry about the heart rate.

Thank you for the response. Now that I am thinking she sweats a lot especially while she is slepping and she often says that she has tummy pain but afterthat goes to bathroom and feels released. I have done the feces analysis and everithing is ok. I want to emphasys that after birth I was diagnosed with Thyroidit of Hashimoto and While I was breastfeeding I started therapy with eutirox. I continued breastfeeding with this therapy for 1 year and half. I was affraid that the medicine would effect the baby but the doctor told that it was ok breastfeeding. Should I do any check up to the baby or you think that I should not worry? Thank you again.

Brief Answer:
You need not worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi.... You need not worry. The thyroid problem you have or the drugs used during breastfeeding are not incriminating.

As of now if you are sure that she's sweating excessively when others are not - You get her a thyroid profile done.

That will settle the issue.
