What Causes Electrical Shock Sensation In Body, And Burning Feeling In Throat?

default
Posted on Mon, 10 Nov 2014
Question: I've been getting some sensation of like an electrical shock or wave in body that also causes a burning sensation in my throat. When it comes on strong, it can make me feel like I'm about to blackout, although I never do. First time tought I was having a heart attack so went to ER and they did the EKG, xray, blood tests, etc and said it was all acid reflux or GI related. GI cocktail did calm it down at first. Put on Protonix which I've been on for two weeks. May have calmed it down a bit, but I've had a few more "episodes" since then but nothing as severe as first time. PCP ordered a holter monitor which came back normal. He also ordered blood work for testing nutritional which all came back normal. What could cause these sensations? Seriously severe GERD eventhough I don't have any other severe belching, acid taste, etc.?? Anxiety or panic attacks?? Will have an endo next week with internal ultrasound...

Brief Answer:
Panic disorder

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.
I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
The condition that you are having is basically panic attacks. This is a disorder of anxiety and occurs cause of imbalance of certainneurotransmitters in the brain. especially serotonin, nor adrenaline, and dopamine to some extent. Medicines are the best options to take care of these symptoms. Paroxetine is the the most popular medicine and my drug of choice. I generally prescribe my patients 12.5 mg per day at night which takes care of anxiety symptoms. Also certain medicines like propranolol andclonazepam can be give as required when there is a panic episode or expected situation where panic attack can appear.
Now you may try doing regular aerobic exercise which can reduce the panic attacks. Yoga and meditation have also helped some. You may also visit a website called Mood Gym which will do a free computer based cognitive behavioural therapy which can also help you.
Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
