What Causes Edema After Taking Wellbutrim, Norvasac And Approvel For Leg Pain?

Question: Good after noon doctor

Hope this query find you well.
I have leg pain.

CPK went from 217 to 1200
This is after 3 weeks of stopping statin.

So my IM doctor feels, Lipitor may not be the culprit.
So that leaves 3 medicines, Wellbutrim, Norvasac and Approvel.
A slight edema exists.

I am trying to reduce wellbutrim.

I need your advice.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Reduce by 150 mg immediately.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,

Welcome back!

The rise in CPK levels is indeed a matter of concern and I agree that Wellbutrin should be reduced. In my opinion, you should reduce 150 mg of bupropion immediately. That is, if you are on 300 mg per day, then shift to 150 mg per day. It may seem a big reduction, but in view of the CPK level, I do not feel we should go slow. After this, I would prefer that 150 mg bupropion be continued for at least a couple of months. But if the CPK level still remains high, then of course, we cannot have the luxury of taking our time to taper it off completely.

I hope things are going well on the personal and professional front and the tapering off will not create any problems. But even if there is a problem, please do not worry. There are other options that can be tried.

Do let me know what your views are.

Best wishes.

Brief Answer:
Let it be.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,

Bupropion does not have many discontinuation symptoms and that is why, you are feeling fine. Still, it is always better to taper off rather than stop abruptly. However, I expect the muscle ache must have been quite troublesome and you also must have been very worried about the raised cpk levels. So, now that bupropion has already been stopped, let it be so. If there is a relapse of depression, we will manage it. Let the physical health improve for now.

Please also keep in mind that raised CPK level is not a common side effect of bupropion but there have been a few case reports of the same.

I am glad to hear about the ducks. Unusual pets but must be great fun. Enjoy!

Best wishes.
